ADOT nearing completion of new Interstate 10 interchange at State Route 90 in Benson During the past two years, the Arizona Department of Transportation has transformed the old traffic interchange at Interstate 10 and State Route 90 in Benson into a modern, user-friendly junction to serve motorists traveling through western Cochise County. Well the $27.6 million project is winding down, with the major work scheduled to wrap up this fall. Work on Interstate 10 bridge over State Route 90 scheduled this weekend Motorists on eastbound I-10 and SR 90 will be detoured around the interchange project Motorists traveling on Interstate 10 and State Route 90 near Benson will encounter full closures of both highways over the coming weekend as the Arizona Department of Transportation pours the deck for the new eastbound I-10 overpass bridge in western Cochise County. Beginning at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10, all eastbound I-10 traffic will exit at the SR 90 interchange (Exit 302) and return to I-10 on the other side of the bridge construction project. The closure will remain in effect until 6 a.m. Sunday, Aug.12, when the left lane of eastbound I-10 will reopen to traffic with a 45 mph posted speed limit. The other lane of eastbound I-10 will open at 6 a.m. Monday, Aug. 13 and regular speed limits will resume. State Route 90 will be closed to traffic in both directions at I-10 from 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 10, until 6 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 12. During this closure, the following detours will be in effect:

Pavement projects on state routes 80 and 90 in Cochise County begin in early August Repaving on SR 80 near Tombstone and on SR 90 north of Sierra Vista to improve roadway The Arizona Department of Transportation will begin work to repave two sections of state highway in Cochise County in early August. The projects – located on State Route 80 west of Tombstone and on State Route 90 north of Sierra Vista – will improve the roadway by providing motorists with a smoother driving surface and extend the life of the highway. What to expect on the SR 90 project: The work is scheduled to begin Monday, Aug. 6 on a six-mile section of SR 90 north of Sierra Vista that includes Huachuca City. The western boundary of the work will be approximately a half-mile west of the intersection on Railroad Drive and the eastern boundary is the traffic signal at SR 90 and Buffalo Soldier Trail. Lane closures will be required during the project, but ADOT will keep one lane open in each direction at all times. Brief delays and some access restrictions are expected during this phase of the project, which is scheduled to be complete in mid-August. What to expect on the SR 80 project: Work on SR 80, scheduled to start on Monday, Aug. 20, will begin approximately four miles west of the junction with State Route 82 and continue east to the western edge of the city of Tombstone. The project area, which includes the Customs and Border Protection checkpoint, encompasses eight miles of SR 80 and will require traffic in both directions to share a single open lane during construction. Work crews will guide motorists through the closure in the construction zone and delays of up to 20 minutes are expected. This work is scheduled to be completed in mid-August. Work in both locations will be done from 6 a.m. until 7 p.m. on weekdays. Final striping and marking will be done in late September. ADOT will provide updates when the project is under way and message boards will be used to notify motorists in advance of travel restrictions.
