ADOT begins repaving project on westbound Interstate 10 at Texas Canyon Wednesday
ADOT begins repaving project on westbound Interstate 10 at Texas Canyon Wednesday Motorists will experience lane closures Wednesday as work begins SAFFORD – Motorists on Interstate 10 near Texas Canyon can expect lane closures on Wednesday (June 27) as the Arizona Department of Transportation begins a project to repave 14 miles of westbound I-10 in Cochise County. The $4.2 million pavement improvement project will include resurfacing the roadway between the Johnson Road traffic interchange (Exit 322) and the east side of Benson. including the westbound Texas Canyon rest area, as well as guardrail and bridge barrier repairs. The project is designed to improve driving conditions through the rolling terrain of Texas Canyon, located midway between Benson and Willcox. On Wednesday crews will narrow the highway to one lane in each direction near Adams Peak Road to install construction barriers for the project. The lane closures are scheduled to be in effect from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. Digital message boards will be placed on both east and west of the closure area on I-10 to notify approaching traffic. The speed limit will be reduced to 55 mph through the approximately half-mile work zone. The milling and paving portion of the project will begin in September and is scheduled for completion by December. Intermittent lane closures will be in effect during the construction phase and traffic delays are expected. ADOT will provide information prior to all lane closures and the closure of the rest area. ADOT advises drivers to proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel. ADOT works to inform the public about planned highway restrictions, but there is a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur. Weather can also affect a project schedule.
