Construction barrier removal scheduled on Interstate 10 at State Route 90 early Monday Motorists traveling on Interstate 10 at the junction with State Route 90 in Benson on the morning of Monday, July 23 will encounter lane closures in both directions while Arizona Department of Transportation crews remove temporary barrier walls that have been in place during construction of the new interstate overpass. The following travel restrictions are scheduled between 4 a.m. and 10 a.m. Monday.
Both closures will cover approximately one mile and approaching motorists will be notified by message boards. The work is part of ADOT's $27.6 million project to replace the traffic interchange, replace a section of S-curves on I-10 west of SR 90 and make improvements to SR 90 near the interchange. Major work on the project is expected to be completed this fall with the possibility of final paving in spring 2013. ADOT advises drivers to proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel. Bridge barrier construction and guardrail replacement continue next week on westbound Interstate 10 near Texas Canyon The Arizona Department of Transportation will continue work on westbound Interstate 10 in Cochise County next week in preparation for repaving a 14-mile segment between the east end of Texas Canyon and the east side of Benson. Crews will continue constructing a new bridge barrier wall at Adams Peak Wash, requiring daily right lane closures on westbound I-10 Monday, July 23 through Friday, July 27. Adams Peak Wash is located between mileposts 309 and 310 west of Texas Canyon. Guardrail replacement on the western slope of Texas Canyon will require progressive right lane closures on westbound I-10 from milepost 317 to milepost 311. Those closures will be in effect daily from Monday, July 23 through Thursday, July 26. The closure area will be up to three miles long and will move as the work progresses. In both areas, posted speed limits will be 55 mph and message boards will notify motorists of the restrictions in advance. The work also includes repairs at the westbound rest area in Texas Canyon, which will remain closed until September. Repaving work is scheduled to begin after the Labor Day weekend. ADOT advises drivers to proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel. Series of wide-load trucks to travel from Phoenix to Graham County in coming weeks to deliver girders for new US 70 bridge Trucks will pass through Tucson to deliver 120 concrete girders for US 70 bridge in Bylas Delivery of girders for the new bridge being constructed on US 70 over the Gila River in Graham County will require a series of oversized loads to travel through Phoenix, Tucson and Safford beginning Thursday, July 12. The new 15-span bridge, located one mile west of Bylas on the San Carlos Apache reservation, is being constructed by the Arizona Department of Transportation to replace the existing bridge that was built in 1957. The delivery of 120 precast concrete girders will take place over 15 weeknights. The first deliveries will begin leaving the Phoenix facility where they are cast shortly after midnight on Thursday with eight trucks departing at 15- to 30-minute intervals. The trucks, measuring 190-feet long, 10-feet wide and 14-feet tall, will carry one girder at a time and will be escorted along the following route:
No deliveries will be made on weekends and all deliveries will arrive at the construction site in the early morning hours. Motorists traveling on the route are advised to be alert for slow-moving oversized loads and drive with caution. The $12.7 million project will feature wider travel lanes, emergency shoulders and a pedestrian walkway. The new bridge is scheduled for completion in spring 2013, when the older bridge will be demolished. Shoulder paving scheduled for Friday on eastbound Interstate 10 in Benson The Arizona Department of Transportation will pave the shoulder of eastbound Interstate 10 west of the junction with State Route 90 in Benson on Friday, July 6. Motorists traveling east on I-10 in western Cochise County will encounter a right-lane closure from 6 a.m. until 3 p.m. beginning approximately one mile west of the interchange at SR 90 (Exit 302). During the closure, crews will pave the roadway shoulder where a temporary off ramp had been located. The posted speed limit in the work area will be 55 mph. The work is part of ADOT's $27.6 million project to replace the I-10 overpass at SR 90, realign the highway west of the overpass and make improvements to SR 90 south of the interchange.
