UPDATED: Repairs at Texas Canyon rest area on westbound Interstate 10 east of Benson to begin Monday, July 16

Rest area will be closed for up to five weeks

Closure of the rest area off westbound Interstate 10 in Texas Canyon has been rescheduled to begin Monday, July 16 to allow the Arizona Department of Transportation to repair worn concrete in the parking area.

The closure, originally scheduled to start Monday, July 9, will be in effect for up to five weeks.

The work is part of a $4.2 million project to resurface westbound I-10 between the Johnson Road traffic interchange (Exit 322) and the east side of Benson which is scheduled to be completed by December 2012.

During the closure, motorists are advised to use available facilities in Willcox or Benson. The nearest highway rest area east of Texas Canyon is located near San Simon at Exit 389. The nearest highway rest area to the west is located near Sacaton, west of Casa Grande.

ADOT advises drivers to proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.
ADOT works to inform the public about planned highway restrictions, but there is a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur. Weather can also affect a project schedule.
