ADOT to pour concrete deck for new eastbound Interstate 10 overpass near Benson this weekend

Motorists on I-10 and State Route 90 are advised to prepare for detours and brief delays

April 18, 2012
The Arizona Department of Transportation is scheduled to pour the bridge deck for the new Intestate 10 overpass at State Route 90 over the weekend, requiring a detour of westbound interstate traffic and closure of SR 90 during the concrete pour.
The work is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Friday (April 20), when westbound I-10 traffic will be required to exit at the SR 90 interchange (Exit 302) and then return to I-10 on the other side of the interchange. The detour is scheduled to remain in place until 6 a.m. Sunday (April 22).
State Route 90 will be closed to all traffic beneath I-10 beginning at 6 p.m. Friday (April 20) until 6 a.m. Saturday (April 21) for the safety of motorists while crews are pouring the new bridge deck.
Southbound SR 90 will reopen at 6 a.m. Saturday (April 21), but northbound SR 90 will remain closed until 6 a.m. Sunday (April 22).
During the SR 90 closure, the following detours will be in effect:
  • Northbound SR 90 motorists wishing to access westbound I-10 can enter eastbound I-10 and continue to Ocotillo Road (Exit 304) where they can exit and then return to westbound I-10.
  • Southbound SR 90 motorists wishing to access eastbound I-10 can take I-10 west to Mescal Road (Exit 297), where they can exit and return to eastbound I-10.
When westbound Interstate 10 reopens at 6 a.m. Sunday (April 22), the left lane will remain closed and a 45 mph speed limit will be in effect until 6 a.m. Monday (April 23) when both westbound lanes will be open.
The work is part of ADOT's $27.6 million project to replace the I-10 overpass at SR 90, straighten a curving section of I-10 west of the interchange and make improvements to State Route 90 near I-10.
ADOT advises drivers to proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.
