Demolition of old overpass on eastbound Interstate 10 at State Route 90 scheduled for next week

Demolition of old overpass on eastbound Interstate 10 at State Route 90 scheduled for next week

Weekend work on new I-10 bridge deck postponed because of forecast for wind and rain

April 12, 2012
Work to remove the old overpass on eastbound Interstate 10 at State Route 90 near Benson will require more travel restrictions throughout next week.
Motorists should be aware of the following lane and ramp closures scheduled between Monday (April 16) and Friday (April 20):
  • The eastbound I-10 exit ramp at SR 90 (Exit 302) will be closed from 2 a.m. until 6 a.m. Monday (April 16) to allow crews to set barrier wall along the existing ramp. During this closure, eastbound I-10 traffic wishing to travel on SR 90 can continue to Ocotillo Road (Exit 304) and get back onto westbound I-10 to access SR 90.

  • On three consecutive evenings â€" Tuesday (April 17), Wednesday (April 18) and Thursday (April 19) â€" the Arizona Department of Transportation will close the right lane of eastbound I-10 for one mile beginning a half-mile west of SR 90 from 6 p.m. until 6 a.m. the following morning. These closures will allow crews to demolish the old overpass bridge on eastbound I-10, which has been replaced with a newly constructed bridge.

  • During each of those overnight I-10 lane closures, State Route 90 also will be closed in both directions under I-10 for the safety of motorists. Drivers on SR 90 will be able to enter eastbound I-10 where they will can return to westbound I-10 or access northbound SR 90 by using the westbound I-10 entrance ramp at Ocotillo Road (Exit 304).
The forecast for high winds and rain has postponed ADOT's weekend plans to detour I-10 traffic at State Route 90 and close SR 90 to allow crews to pour concrete for the new eastbound bridge being constructed. This work was previously announced this past Monday and is now expected to be pushed back one week. ADOT will provide more detailed information about the new schedule next week.
ADOT advises drivers to proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.
ADOT works to inform the public about planned highway restrictions, but there is a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur. Weather can also affect a project schedule.
