Work to resume on westbound Interstate 10 near Texas Canyon after Labor Day

Westbound rest area to reopen Friday for holiday travelers

Travel restrictions on westbound Interstate 10 near Texas Canyon will resume after the Labor Day Holiday weekend as the Arizona Department of Transportation continues preparations for repaving 14 miles of westbound I-10.

Crews are expected to finish working at noon Friday, Aug. 31 to accommodate holiday travelers and no travel restrictions will be in effect in the project area over the holiday weekend.

The Texas Canyon rest area on westbound I-10, which has been closed for pavement and drainage repairs in the parking lot, is also expected to reopen midday Friday, Aug. 31.

The following lane closures are scheduled after Labor Day:

  • The left lane of westbound I-10 will be closed for approximately a half-mile starting just west of the Johnson Road traffic interchange (Exit 322) from Tuesday, Sept. 4 through Friday, Sept. 14.
  • The left lane of westbound I-10 will be closed for a half-mile at Sibyl Road (Exit 313) from Tuesday, Sept. 4 through Friday, Sept. 14.
Both closures will be in effect 24-hours per day, including the weekend, to allow crews to work on bridge barriers and guardrails.

ADOT advises drivers to proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.
ADOT works to inform the public about planned highway restrictions, but there is a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur. Weather can also affect a project schedule.
